Isn’t lift-and-shift cheaper and faster than refactoring?
Cheaper and faster on day one, yes. But lift-and-shift usually recreates your existing costs, and your existing limitations, on infrastructure that bills around the clock. Refactoring takes more upfront effort, but it’s what lowers your ongoing total cost of ownership and unlocks the scalability and resilience you moved to the cloud for in the first place.
What does “cloud-native” actually mean?
It means building applications to take advantage of how the cloud actually works, using managed and serverless services that scale automatically and charge only for what you use, rather than running traditional servers in a cloud data center. It’s the difference between using the cloud and merely renting space in it.
Will modernizing really lower our costs?
